The Forest (2016) is a supernatural horror film that follows Sara Price (Natalie Dormer), an American woman who travels to Japan in search of her missing twin sister, Jess. Jess disappeared near the notorious Aokigahara Forest, also known as the "Suicide Forest," located at the base of Mount Fuji—a place with a dark reputation for being haunted by vengeful spirits. Despite warnings from locals about the supernatural dangers lurking within, Sara ventures into the forest with the help of a travel journalist, Aiden, and a guide, Michi.
As she delves deeper into the eerie, dense woods, Sara begins to experience strange visions and encounters unsettling forces that blur the line between reality and horror. Driven by her connection to her sister, she pushes forward, but soon realizes that the forest feeds on personal trauma and fear. As Sara's psychological state deteriorates, she finds herself caught in a chilling struggle for survival against both the supernatural elements of the forest and her own haunting past.
The Forest combines psychological horror with a tense, atmospheric setting, exploring themes of loss, fear, and the fine line between reality and the supernatural.
